Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders targeted Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party for a speech in support of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after he was sentenced to two years in jail in a defamation case.

The BJP has launched a scathing attack against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who has come out in support of Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the BJP is hatching a conspiracy to remove "non-BJP" leaders and political groups by prosecuting them. "It is not right to drag Rahul Gandhi into such a defamation case," says Kejriwal

Arvind Kejriwal tweeted, “A conspiracy is being hatched to remove non-BJP leaders and parties by prosecuting them. We have differences with the Congress, but dragging Rahul Gandhi into a defamation case like this is not right. It is the job of the public and the opposition to ask questions. We respect the court, but we disagree with the decision."

Accusing both parties of collusion, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said AAP has dropped its "purdah (veil) of pretense" and is now openly supporting the Congress party. "So AAP has finally dropped the pretense and openly embraced Congress - AAP ka haath Congress ke saath," he tweeted.

Citing AAP's 'absence of faith in the judiciary', he wrote: "Their support for Rahul Gandhi proves the following

1) They have no faith in the court
2) Stands with Congress on corruption issues - gone are the days of Anna Hazare and IAC
3) They support Rahul's slander against Modi samaaj & OBCs and maybe also his statements demanding foreign intervention in India.
